Letter of Intent to consolidate

Citizens of Freeport:
This morning we received notification Commissioner Susan Gendron approved our Letter of Intent to consolidate. The actual response can be accessed by logging onto the Department of Education website:
http://www.maine.gov/education/
I have copied it here for ease of reference. Freeport's is on page 57 of the COMPLIES list.
What's New - updates to the Reorganization web pages
September 13 -Letters of Response to the Notices of Intent. The three files below contain the letters sent to all 290 SAUs with responses to their Notices of Intent.
IMPORTANT NOTE: An SAU may receive more than one response because of the several Notices it filed, so be sure to look through all three documents/categories below, to see if there is more than one letter to your SAU in a given document/category of the three given below. These letters have been sent in hard copy to SAU offices, accompanied by a copy of the Notice of Intent to which it refers. The online documents below do not have the accompanying Notice of Intent and so if the SAU filed more than one Notice of Intent, it may not be readily apparent which Notice of Intent each response is referencing. Please contact your local SAU office for clarification.
The Department is working to compile a chart showing the statewide results of the responses and will post the chart online with a link from this web page once it is complete. This could take several days; check back daily.

At this point we know our intent to consolidate with Pownal and Durham schools complies with the law. We do not yet know if Durham will continue to wish to consolidate with us, since they have also submitted Brunswick as a potential partner. They have scheduled a Town vote on September 19.
Our next steps will be very important. We have engaged a Facilitator through the Department of Education. He will assist in scheduling of meetings, organizing agendas, and securing information from the DOE that will help us as we craft the Reorganization Plan. It is due to the DOE by December 1 of this year.
The Reorganization Planning Committee (RPC) with representation from each member district is also in the process of being formed. We will post updates as we generate them. Please stay informed by viewing the CONSOLIDATION section of our website. As always, please feel free to use the Comments? link at the bottom of the page to e-mail questions or comments. We respond to these and to other e-mails or phone calls.
Thank you for your continued interest in the Consolidation process. It is the most important school legislation the state has dealt with in fifty years. It is imperative for our students and the future of our schools that we take the long view and create a high performing district out of this mandate.
